Paragraphs make my eyes glaze over – you too? ·
’64, BA from College of New Rochelle, French Literature. What was I thinking? Worked for NY State in Human Resources/Labor Relations management til 1977. · Moved to Missoula, MT – Director of HR at University of Montana. Never locked my door when we lived there. ·
1980 – Off to Cali. Directed Employee Relations for Cal State University & College System in LA. ·
1981 – To the Bay Area for 20+ years. ER/HR Management in public sector, including Cal Berkeley. Madly in love with San Francisco. ·
1991 – Self-donated sabbatical in Australia for 8 months. Solo. Mostly out there in the never-never.
1991 – 2008 – HR Exec in private sector: Nextel, Mediaplex Technology, WF Bank. Consultant to Microsoft in Seattle. Four years directing HR in Vegas for Caesars, MGM Mirage. Private business consultant for 8 years, including for a company in Africa – spent a few months in Zambia in 97. ·
Ran out of patience with HR last year in DC, working for the Feds. Just relocated to gorgeous Charleston, South Carolina. Have I retired? No more HR, that’s for damn sure. ·
1989: Became a (good) writer. Have won several awards, been NEA Fiction Fellow in 2 states, have several short stories published. Finished and marketing first novel (a war novel about women in resistance activities, based on true stories). Midway through second novel (weird tale of two brothers, jealousy, voodoo). ·
1998: Became a (bad) painter. Not overloaded with talent, but have lots of unrealistic hope. Have had work shown; how did that happen? · Married twice in rapid succession, in Albany. Didn’t take. Have a great son and fantastic friends. Still hoping… · If anyone had told me in June 1960 that my life would have taken these turns, I may have run. I may have cheered. Whatevs. It’s mine now: citizen of the world, not too rich in money but tales to tell, gonna live in France if it kills me, lots of energy, trying to find that thing. Still have my own skates. Have never played golf.

After graduation from VI I went to work for the FBI. Worked in Baltimore, Albany and New York City. Met my first husband, an FBI agent, in the Albany office. He quit the FBI and went into sales, which took us all over the country. Lived in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, California. We had 2 daughters and 2 sons in the span of 4 1/2 years. Unfortunately, we lost our younger son when he was a year old. I was able to stay home for 15 years to raise the children.
In 1981 we moved to Naperville, Illinois (west of Chicago), where I still live. At that time I went back to school to get a paralegal certificate and have worked at a law firm in Naperville, in the legal department of McDonald's Corporation and at a multi-national law firm in Chicago. Went to school at night and got a Bachelor's degree in accounting / finance and an MBA in accounting.
I remarried in 2007 -- an attorney from Naperville who was a widower. We retired in 2008. All my children are married and live within 10 minutes of our house. I have 8 grandchildren (4 granddaughters and 4 grandsons). My husband has a daughter and a son, both of whom are married, and he has 5 grandchildren, all of whom also live in the area. Holidays are majorly chaotic but tons of fun.
We won't be able to make the reunion, but would love to see anyone who gets to the Chicago area. My email address is: bljames707@gmail.com

After VI I attended the College of St. Rose for two years and then left to get married and raise a family. Bob Hoenig(VI'56, RPI"60) and I were married on August 11, 1962. We just celebrated our 48th Anniversary with a trip to Santa Barbara and Solvang for some wine tasting.
We have lived in Connecticut, Alabama and California--Huntington Beach since 1975. We have two children, Susan(Greg) and Steve(Danielle), both married and living near-by. We also have four wonderful (is there any other kind??) grandchildren.
Bob worked in the Aircraft Industry--Missiles and Space in Huntsville AL--and for Northrop Corp. in CA--Stealth Bomber. I worked for the Huntington Beach City School District for 17 years and then "retired" to do the child care for our grandchildren. (did not plan on doing that for 15 years!!) Really retired three years ago when the youngest one started Kindergarten.
Bob became interested in genealogy and does research for the Orange County Genealogical (finally learned how to spell that) Society and I volunteer at the local library--with California's budget problems, the library is more dependent on volunteers than they have ever been.
We like to travel and went on our first cruise in 2005--and have been on several since then--the last one was a two week cruise through the Panama Canal--Awesome! We are in negotiations for the next one as we have different lists.
We are both looking forward to my 50Th VI reunion and to Bob's 50th RPI--the only one we ever made together was his 10th RPI.
Glad to see that more people are posting updates and signing the guestbbok! Mary Ellen

Following VI, got my degree in Biology from Siena and then in '68 graduated from the Veterinary College at Cornell. Worked in different practices in Schoharie, Staten Island and Albany before starting a practice in Clifton Park in '76. Met Dolores in Staten Island and married in '74. We have one daughter, Kirsten, lives in Boston. She has run the Boston Marathon I think four times now. Must be her mother's genes in play there. Founding member of the Northway Animal Emergency Clinic in Gansevoort and and also the Capital District Animal Emergency Clinic (CDAEC) in Latham and past CDAEC Board President and Chairman of Medical Review.
We bred and raised Connemara Ponies for about 15 years. Imported a Connemara stallion from Ireland and had two mares one of which we imported from England and the other was American bred. Besides breeding our own mares we shipped the stallion's semen all over the country and to Canada for artificial insemination. Sold the ponies in 2005 and the veterinary hospital in 2008. Retired except when the new doctor wants some vacation time and then I fill in for her. Otherwise, enjoying being a gentleman farmer.
Would love to know if Vinny can still wiggle his ears. Regret can't make it to the reunion.
God bless all.

After V. I., I went to Manhattan College (with Vin & others) for 4 years of fun in the Big City (actually Riverdale). Majored in Civil Engineering, got a Masters in C. E. at NYU, & an "almost" MBA at NYU also. Worked in Engineering, Construction and Consulting in New York, San Francisco and Tehran, Iran (1974-77, before the Shah was deposed). Ran a large construction management operation there - very exciting time. Married Suzanne from Milwaukee in 1973 after meeting in NYC; we have one son, Terrence (27), who lives in Santa Monica, CA, an aspiring film producer. After Iran, Suzanne went back to Advertising (she now sells syndicated TV media time), and I changed careers to finance, trading securities, now in Treasury Bond trades for hedge funds. Ran the NYC Marathon in 1978 (to lose weight); now it's tennis and golf. We moved to Riverside, CT six years ago after 27 years in NYC, so I'm playing more golf. I really enjoy getting together with the boys at Ballston Spa (also played with Bill Terrell, Bob Rapp, Vin McArdle, Kevin Carmody and John Siegrist recently). Looking forward to September 10-12.

AT VI I got cut from the JV BB team frosh year, soph year, cut from varsity to JV Jr year, then Bill Boehner told me I would get 1st shot at starting Sr year. A week later he quit! Then I knew life would be hard. Co-captained track team w/ Tom Webster. We both went to Manhattan Col., he on a track scholarship, I on a grant from Vincent McArdle Sr. Life still hard. Tom did ok. As a walk-on I wasn't much of a long, high jumper but by soph year was a runner, ended up All-American in 400 hurdles & ran in Olympic Trials-made finals, finished last.Majored in English, wasn't sure I wanted to be an English, single guys being drafted so went to law school for 3 years-graduated-and was drafted. Life still hard. Got on Army track team and spent time in LA. Overseas duty was a week in Athens at International Military Games-guest of Greek Junta. Got out, went to work for City of Albany, working for Mayor Corning, who started his 1st term the year most of us were born. Great man, great experience. Ended up chief city lawyer for 3 mayors for 17 years-best one was Corning. Married Kathy in '78, saved my life, but I had to break up with Lenny Gaspary. Raised 2 kids, still live in Pine Hills. Looking to get on Senior Golf Tour. Just have to shave a bout 20 strokes off the H'cap. Life is good!

Mary Jean Pellegrino Sfara,
Following VI, I went to Saint Rose where I received a BA in Spanish. After
graduation in "64, I taught a year and then decided to go to SUNY Albany for an
MA in Spanish. I began my teaching career again at Schalmont (Rotterdam).
Because of family obligations, I left teaching after three years to help out in the
family business
In "66, I married Nick Sfara (a native of Italy but raised in France) and we had
two daughters, Laura and Nicole. We are still here in the Albany area. Nick
aad a long career as a commercial construction estimator and I stayed home
with the family for about 17 years. I resumed teaching Spanish in '86 and retired
in 2002. During my teaching, I co-chaperoned and co- organized four trips to
Spain which was a lot of fun.
During our marriage, Nick and I have been fortunate enough to travel which we love.
We have been to Europe several times enjoying Italy, Spain, and France and
more recently, Belgium and Amsterdam. We also love travel here in the USA.
We have two grandsons, ages 8 and 5, who have
brought us much joy
.

LIfe after VI: I was (am) Sheila Hayes. After graduation I went to
Georgetown Univ. in DC and got a BS in Nursing. Got married in
1965. Lived on Long Island until 1975 then moved upstate and
lived in Delmar for 5 years. My husband worked in the dredded
Wall Street world...he did Municipal Bonds for a variety of firms
and retired in '06. From 1980 until 2007 we lived in NJ...we are
currently in Kennesaw, GA (a suburb of Marietta, which is sort of
a suburb of Atlanta). We have six children and eight grandchildren
(ages 7-13). Over the years I worked taking care of newborns (sick
or well) at several hospitals. I started vacationing in the Adirondacks
in 1949 as a kid and continue to do so. We go to a small but beautiful
lake, Silver Lake, near the thriving (or not so) town of AuSable Forks
in Clinton County. We travel 30 miles to Plattsburgh to shop. We are
usually up there for the entire month of July.. Some of the people in
our class I went to school with for 12 years as I went to VI grade school.
I would love to see some of them...I must admit I no longer have contact
with anyone. I did for a few years (Christmas, mostly) and then stopped
hearing from them. Would be nice to reunite....

After high school I received a B.A. in English (1964) and an M.A. in English
(1966) from St. Rose. I started teaching tenth grade English at Washingtonville
Central School (near Newburgh) in 1965 while my fiance, Bill Dickerson
(VI '58), was serving in the Air Force in Vietnam and Thailand. When he
came home in October, 1966, we were married and he was lucky enough
to be stationed at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh and I was able to
continue teaching. When Bill left active service in September, 1967 (he
continued in the reserve until 1985), I was eight months pregnant with our
first child. We settled back home in the Albany area and have lived in
Colonie ever since. We added four more children to the family, including
"surprise" twins. We also have three grandchildren, with a fourth due in
December. When my youngest child started kindergarten in 1984, I went
back to teaching. At first it was just subbing and then in 1990 I started
teaching tenth and eleventh grade English at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons
in Schenectady. I retired in 2000 and since then have been a consultant with
NYSED on the English regents exam. I have always been active in school and
church activities, serving twice on my parish school board. Currently I have been
privileged to provide part-time daycare for my youngest grandchild,
one-year-old Nathan.
